Mid-Year Music Events 2024
In June, the Camberwell Grammar community was treated to several of the largest music events on the school calendar, the Mid-Year Concert, Jazz Night and the Junior School Soirée.
The Mid-Year Concert in the Performing Arts Centre was an outstanding success. The Camberwell community came together once again to celebrate the wonderful musical achievements of our students and staff. Musicians from across Junior, Middle and Senior Schools showcased their talents in beautiful performances from ensembles, music interludes from students and marvellous performances from vocal ensembles, including the Whole School Choir. Congratulations to all students and staff who performed and organised such a wonderful evening of music.
Jazz Night was also a night to remember. The Middleton Theatre was lit up with mood lighting and guests were treated to a night of Jazz and Big Band classics in a relaxed and intimate setting. Sitting at shared tables lit by lanterns, the audience enjoyed the cabaret-style concert with performances from some of our best ensembles. Ensembles including the CGS Big Band, Guitar Ensembles, Stage Bands and Vocal students wowed the crowd and showcased a different side of the Music Program. Congratulations to all the performers and Music Staff for putting this fantastic showcase together.
Junior School Soirées are an opportunity for our youngest musicians to showcase their learning in a small performance space. Originally, soirées were a small evening gathering (from the French ‘soir’ meaning evening) where composers, artists and writers would share their compositions amongst a small group of friends.
We were treated to some wonderful performances from all members of the orchestral family. There were two percussion performances from Year 5 students, Vincent and Oscar. There was music by Bach, Schumann, Beethoven and Gounod. Twisted Brass led by Ms Melanie Simpson, finished our concert before we sang a canon of Good, Better, Best to send us on our way. Congratulations to all the students who worked diligently to prepare their repertoire and perform so confidently and musically.
