Karen Whelan joined Camberwell Grammar School at the beginning of 2025 as the Deputy Principal/Head of Senior School, after serving in the same role at Shelford Girls’ Grammar. She has extensive senior leadership experience in student and staff wellbeing, teaching and learning, and staffing and operations.
As a leader, Karen values the importance of relationships and is committed to building strong, positive connections within the school community. She believes these connections empower individuals, foster a sense of belonging, and create mutual support, helping each member feel valued and inspired.
A teacher of Geography and Psychology, Karen advocates for a holistic approach to education, where wellbeing and learning are seamlessly intertwined to help students thrive. She emphasises metacognition, believing that helping students understand how they learn promotes reflection, resilience, and independence, equipping them with lifelong skills for growth and adaptability.
